Botanic Beauties

These ‘Botanic Beauties’ were painted in response to a visit to St Andrews Botanic Gardens in Fife, Scotland in 2019. During the Lockdown, I wanted to paint something that reminded me of the freedom that nature offers us – and my photos and sketches of these gardens was just what I was looking for.

They are not exact representations of my photos, but rather an attempt to generate the feelings and emotions of being surrounded by such abundance. The colours were stunning and I was also interested in the structures of the plants and how they sat in their environment. Below are some progress shots as I was designing the compositions.
